One of the youth, who had set himself ablaze in front of the office of Manakondur legislator to protest against the alleged corruption in land distribution scheme, died of burn injuries today, said police.
Mahakali Srinivas (26) who was under treatment was declared dead by doctors this afternoon, police said.
Soon after Srinivas was declared dead, the BJP and TDS partymen have staged dharna (sit-in), demanding compensation to the deceased.
Srinivas and Yalala Parsharamulu (26) had set themselves ablaze on September 3 to protest against the demand for bribe made by the village revenue officer for allotment of land to them.
The village revenue officer was allegedly demanding bribe for inclusion of their (Srinivas and Parsharamulu's) names in list of beneficiaries to be distributed land free of cost, police said.
Vexed with the attitude of the officer, they tried to meet Manakondur legislator Rasamai Balakishan but he was not in his office at that time. The enraged youth had then poured petrol and set themselves ablaze.
Srinivas has sustained 60 per cent burn injuries whereas Parsharamulu got 40 per cent burns, doctors treating them had said.
Parsharamulu (26) is likely to be discharged tomorrow, said doctors treating him.
