The issue of privilege motion moved by a TDP member against YSR Congress MLAs in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for making unparliamentary comments against the Speaker had a happy ending today with the legislators concerned expressing regrets.
Alleging that behaviour of the YSR Congress members was "obnoxious" in the House on March 19, when eight members of the Opposition party were suspended for "unruly" behaviour, V Anita and other ruling TDP members urged the Speaker to take action against them. The issue was taken up for debate in the House today.
Opposition Leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said his party would admit a mistake if there is one and it is ready to tender an unconditional apology if the members have committed a mistake either knowingly or unknowingly.
Legislative Affairs Minister Y Ramakrishnudu said the Government's intention is not to take action on someone but to protect the sanctity of the Chair. The treasury benches would like to leave the matter to Speaker Kodela Siva Prasad Rao.
The YSRC members present in the Assembly expressed regrets for their actions after which the Speaker highlighted the need to conduct the House in a dignified manner.
Stressing on the need to ensure that such unparliamentary remarks and actions do not recur, the Speaker, however, said the apologies should be accepted and that all sides should work together in public interest.
Eight members of YSR Congress were suspended from the Assembly for three days for their "unruly" behaviour on March 19 following which the Opposition decided to bring a motion for removal of the Speaker, accusing him of not being impartial.
The YSR Congress members went to the Well of the House and raised slogans during a heated debate on Budget.
