YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today announced that his party MPs would launch a phase-wise agitation programme leading eventually to their resignation demanding that Andhra Pradesh be granted special category state status.
The YSRC would make the special status the main issue in the 2019 elections, Jagan said.
The Leader of Opposition in AP Assembly addressed a public meeting in Kurnool city today to mobilise people's support on the special status issue.
YSR Congress has eight MPs from the state in Lok Sabha and a lone member in Rajya Sabha.
At least two of its Lok Sabha members, however, had cut off their relationship with the party and one of the two had in fact joined Telugu Desam.
"Our MPs will stall Parliament during the ensuing winter session. They will continue the same agitation and raise the special status issue in the Budget session. If the Centre doesn't concede our demand even then, our MPs will quit their posts by the subsequent (monsoon) session," Jagan said.

"We will go to by-elections solely on the special status slogan. We will once again raise the issue in Parliament after our MPs are re-elected," he added.
The special status would also be the main election issue in 2019.
"Something good will happen to AP only with special status. It will become a reality only if we fight together. When everybody thought it was impossible, people of Telangana achieved a separate state through a united agitation. Similarly, we too can achieve special status," the YSRC chief said.
