The series will showcase the "High School Musical" star, who is described as a "traveler and food-lover," investigating the importance of good grub and how important it is to culture, reported E! online.
Efron, 28, will look beyond the "extravagant and obscure in food to explore the artistry, storytelling and journeys in what we eat, and the issues and experiences surrounding what we find on our plates", according to a release.
The show will air on America's MTV network, but a release date has yet to be announced.
Food fans usually wait months to grab a table at Jiro Ono's establishment, but the actor managed to get in a day after he arrived in the city during a recent vacation with girlfriend Sami Miro.
It is not known if he'll be returning to Tokyo for the new film.
