A 28-year-old Zambian national today died at a hospital in Amritsar under mysterious circumstances, police said.
Twala Keltha had been admitted to Government Guru Nanak Dev Hospital yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Jasdip Singh said.
Keltha had reached Amritsar from Delhi on Thursday through the Delhi-Lahore bus, intending to travel to Pakistan, but upon her arrival Indian Immigration Authority found that she did not have a visa and refused to allow her to continue her journey, the SSP said.
On her request, the authorities held telephonic talk with their Pakistani counterpart, whereupon Pakistan agreed to sanction her visa on arrival, the SSP added.
However, the Pakistan authorities later declined her visa on arrival and immediately informed their Indian counterpart to accept her back but Indian authorities refused as the International border had been closed, he said.
Yesterday morning, Pakistani Rangers found the woman unconscious on a road near the International Border. She was then handed over to India, they said.
The SSP said the woman was in India on a business project on the invitation of Mumbai-based business house. The business house and the Zambian Embassy has been informed about her death.
