In the operation which lasted for more than three hours, 15 fire tenders were pressed into service to control the inferno in the Zarda (chewing tobacco) manufacturing unit, a fire station officer said.
No one was injured in the fire which out during the working hours, he confirmed.
"We received a call around 2:30 pm and several fire tenders were rushed to the spot," he said adding, fire brigades from other fire stations too were requisitioned.
"Two fire brigades are still stationed near the factory," he said.
"Though the employees were working inside the factory when the fire broke out, all of them managed to come out safely," the fire department official said.
The cause of the fire and the financial loss caused by it are yet to be ascertained, he said.
"The area was cordoned off and we were successful in preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent factories and jhuggi clusters nearby," he said.
