Zinc prices were down by 1.88% to Rs 135.45 per kg in futures trade today as speculators offloaded their positions tracking a weak trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in current month plunged by Rs 3.60, or 1.88%, to Rs 135.45 per kg in a business turnover of 679 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in October weakened by Rs 2.45, or 1.77%, to Rs 136.25 per kg in 91 lots.

Market analysts said speculators offloaded positions in tandem with a weak global trend as copper led industrial metals lower, before data tomorrow that may show manufacturing slowed for the second month in China, the biggest consumer, which put pressure on zinc prices at futures trade.
