Zinc futures traded a shade lower at Rs 142.90 per kg today as speculators reduced positions amid weakness in base metals overseas and subdued domestic demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in November traded lower by 20 paise, or 0.14%, to Rs 142.90 per kg in a business turnover of 10 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in current month contracts shed 15 paise, or 0.11%, to Rs 142.20 per kg in 10 lots.

Market analysts said besides subdued demand from consuming industries in the spot market, a weak trend in base metals overseas amidst signs of European slowdown, led to the fall in zinc prices at futures trade.
