Zinc prices fell 0.28 per cent to Rs 198.05 per kg in futures market Tuesday after speculators trimmed positions amid subdued demand at the domestic spot market.
However, a firm trend in metal at the London Metal Exchange (LME) capped losses.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in March drifted down by 55 paise, or 0.28 per cent, to Rs 198.05 per kg in a business turnover of 851 lots.
Analysts said cutting down of positions by traders, triggered by a weak trend at the domestic physical markets due to low demand, mainly led to the fall in zinc prices at futures trade.
Globally, zinc for delivery in three-month rose 0.6 per cent to USD 2,831 a tonne at the LME on Monday.
