Tracking gains in base metals overseas and better domestic demand, zinc futures today edged up by 1.26 per cent to Rs 177.20 per kg as speculators enlarged positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in November moved up by Rs 2.20 or 1.26 per cent to Rs 177.20 per kg with a business turnover of 1,539 lots.
Metal for delivery in December too rose by Rs 2.10 or 1.20 per cent to trade at Rs 177.60 per kg in a business volume of 146 lots.
Marketmen said improved demand in the spot market amid a firming trend as metal markets in global market renewed their advance on stronger oil prices and optimism over demand in the US, mainly influenced zinc prices at futures trade here.
