The National Zoological Park today celebrated the World Wildlife Day-2018 with special focus on protection of 'Big Cats'.
The celebration based on the theme 'Big Cats: Predators under Threat' saw an array of activities on the zoo premises such as selfie point, tying of 'rakhi' by school children on large cutouts of Big Cats (tigers, lions, jaguars, leopards etc), a walk to create awareness about animal protection, film screenings and lectures among others .
"Apart from entertaining our visitors, the Delhi zoo has always been conscious about its role in creating awareness about wildlife conservation. The World Wildlife Day gives us a platform every year to address this crucial point," Renu Singh, zoo director, said at the event.
She said loss of habitat, climate change, hunting and poaching are posing grave risks to the Big Cats.
