ZSI to clear confusion over Indian Bustard population in Thar

To clear the confusion over the exact number of Great Indian Bustard (godawan)in Thar desert, Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) will conduct a new census, an official said.
Deputy Director of Desert National Park, Anup K R , said that the ZSI will take up the task under a programme in order to determine exact number of Great Indian Bustard, popularly known as 'godawan'.
He said that ZSI will take up the task after some time.
He also said that the number of the bird was around 1500 in the year 1981 but it reduced to 40 in 2014.
According to the officer, the forest department spotted only 13 godawan in June this year.
The situation about the existence of the bird will be clear after the new census, he added.
