The Madras Chamber of Commerce of Industries (MCCI) will soon release a report on how the government can make the business environment in Tamil Nadu easier for industry, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The report is expected in mid-October.
T Shivaraman, president of MCCI, said that the report will be ready in the next few weeks and will be based on a survey conducted across four sectors - auto components, textiles, chemicals and leather, which constitute the base of the state's manufacturing sector.
He said that the study will dwell on "regulatory pressures" like labour laws, factory laws and sales tax, among other issues.
"What needs to be done is not very complex, nor impossible. All it requires is a few regulatory changes which can be done by the state government, since it is the implementing agency," said Shivaraman.
