The increasing adoption of information technology solutions by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across all sectors is fuelling the growth of Bangalore-based business solutions software provider Tally Solutions (P) Ltd.

The company is not only expanding its presence across India but also devising a strategy to increase market penetration, and targeting a three-fold increase in turnover in 2012-13 in comparison to the year gone by.

While four million SMEs have adopted IT solutions so far, the number is expected to double over the next three years.

Tally’s President Avinash Gupta told Business Standard, “Even though India boasts of a base of 8 million SMEs as on the current date, only half of them have adopted information technology. In order to get the rest enabled, the reseller network must reach out and help them by educating them on the latest advancements in technology.”

In order to tap business from SMEs, Tally recently announced the launch of a new initiative — ‘The Mathematics of Happiness’. This is a series of 121 workshops conducted by the top leadership of Tally in 54 cities, including Chandigarh and Ludhiana in Punjab, touching over 9,600 partners (which provide services to SMEs) over a period of one month. The objective of the workshops is to trigger explosive growth of their partners’ businesses.

He added, “The workshop strives to motivate the partners to adopt innovative ideas and concepts to reach out to their customers. The workshops are designed with inspirational philosophies which are very easily actionable by the common man. The outcome of these workshops is expected to result in motivating the partner to reach out to customers to focus on explosive growth.’’

According to Gupta, educational material has been developed to equip the partners with “talking points”, which will enable them to seek time with their customers. The material has been designed keeping in mind the changing business scenario and the need to adopt best practices.

He added that with IT adoption among SMEs increasing, Tally was growing by leaps and bounds. The company’s sales turnover expectation for 2011-12 is Rs 450 crore, against Rs 220 crore in 2010-11, and in 2012-13 “we are targeting a three-fold increase in turnover in comparison to 2011-12,” Gupta said, adding that about 75 per cent of the company’s business comes from SMEs and the rest from institutions.

Gupta said Tally has been the IT backbone of over 90 per cent of businesses in India’s SME sector, and by triggering faster IT adoption, the company will be instrumental in enabling its partners to grow exponentially.
