The wholesale debt market (WDM) at the National Stock Exchange saw a trading volume of Rs 278.01 crore. The treasury bill segment saw a volume of Rs 26 crore. The prices of the government securities dropped by nearly 10 to 15 paise during the day.
Traders showed active buying interest for the 12.30 per cent state government loan maturing in 2007. The state loans of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Orissa and Punjab was traded for Rs 20.39 crore at the weighted average yield of 12.14 per cent and all priced at Rs 100.75. The day saw one repo deal being concluded at the rate of 7.5 per cent for a term of 12 days. The repo deal was done for the 11.75 per cent government loan maturing in 2001 for Rs 25 crore. A deal worth Rs five crore was done for the same paper at the yield of 11.37 per cent.
The 12.69 per cent government loan, maturing in 2002, was traded for Rs 25 crore at the weighted average yield 11.45 per cent. The paper was traded for a low of Rs 103.65 and high of Rs 103.80. The 11.50 per cent government loan, maturing in 2004, was traded for Rs 35 crore, and was traded at the weighted average yield of 11.72 per cent.
