The wholesale debt market of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) witnessed a trading volume of Rs 269.57 crore yesterday of which Rs 165 crore was from repo trades. The treasury bills segment contributed Rs 65 crore, while the corporate debenture segment saw active trading interest with 577 trades being reported showing a volume of Rs 6.87 crore.
"There was few trades taking place in the market as not many trades appear bullish of securities market yesterday," said a NSE dealer. Three repo deals worth Rs 50 crore were concluded for the 12.5 per cent gilts maturing in 2004 for a term of 14 days at the rate of 8.75 per cent and 8.90 per cent. Two repo deals were concluded for Rs 30 crore for the 12.14 per cent government loan maturing in 2000 for a term of 13 days at the rate of 8.75 per cent.
In the treasury bill segment, a bulk trade was done for the 364-day treasury bill maturing on January 30 for Rs 55 crore at a weighted average yield of nine per cent. In the corporate debenture segment, the 13.75 per cent GE Capital bond maturing in 1999 was traded for Rs 6.10 crore, while the zero per cent Reliance Petro maturing in 2001 was traded for Rs 59.94 lakh.
