A delegation of Congress leaders requested President K R Narayanan to ensure that the A B Vajpayee government, which was already defeat on the floor of the House, did not take policy decisions during its tenure as a care-taker government.

A Congress delegation also met the Election Commission yesterday and requested that the revision of electoral rolls must be completed before the next elections so that all those who were eligible to vote got an opportunity to exercise their constitutional rights.

The Election Commission has already said that rolls revision would not be complete before mid-July.

The delegation also protested against the "improper and inappropriate" use of the official media by Prime Minister wherein he launched his "election campaign" through his address to the nation.

The delegation, comprising Pranab Mukherjee, P J Kurien, Motilal Vohra, R. K. Dhawan, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shivraj Patil, Kapil Sibal and Shiv Shanker, called on the President at the Rashtrapati Bhawan at 6 pm.

In a memorandum to the President, the party said that "routine administrative matters can certainly be dealt with consistent with past precedents and practices" but not policy decisions.

"You alone as the custodian of the constitution have the authority to instruct the present incumbent caretaker government not not to use the official media in this partisan manner", the memorandum said.
