Bharti To Offer Call Stand-By Facility By October

The Mantrafreenet subscribers, while surfing the Internet, will get a beep or similar indication on their computers indicating that a call is waiting for them -- even the number of the caller will be displayed on the screen so that they can know the importance of the call.

The technology likely to be introduced by October this year, informed Rajan Bharti Mittal here on Thursday. He said, the company had a plan to widen its reach further in Madhya Pradesh. "We aim to reaching 30 cities by the end of the year."

Tough the company has no specific plan for the state except for attaining a target of 2 lakh subscribers; it is focussed at customer services and consolidations.

But the company is waiting for government nod for fourth mobile phone operator in the state. The state has only two mobile phone operators, Reliance and RPG. The third operator would be department of telecom, which still has to procure equipment for the services.

" Madhya Pradesh will be our prime area of interest we are waiting for government's announcement for fourth license."

He also said that Bharti Enterprises would go public to raise Rs 1,500 crore through initial public offering and private placements to its venture partners this fiscal. Though he did not disclosed the exact date or month, he said that the Bharti had announced its restructuring plan and the issue would be coming this fiscal.

The company will soon establish its KU band gateway in Madhya Pradesh in month of September-October. "The gateway for which we have signed an MoU with STPI would give higher bandwidth in the state, which is a prime requirement of the state. The state has recently announced to become an IT state but connectivity is still a major problem in the state."

On long distance telephony he said, "we are ready to enter in to that area for we are equipped with latest technology. Madhya Pradesh is very important for our NLD strategy."

The company has recently carved out Bharti Teletech Ltd under its restructuring plan. The company is aimed at manufacturing 2.5 million terminals this year. "We believe that the kind of growth that is happening on the fixed line the terminal requirement is multiplying. On export front we are making huge breakthrough with Asian countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Export is a huge potential we are seeking, because world over 100 terminals are being sold, from that point of view there is a huge canvas available. While in India there are 25 million lines and we are likely to go to 100 million lines in five to seven years. This year the government is also going to 8 million terminals so there is a huge potential and hence we are focussed into that area. We have three manufacturing plants which should be ready by 2002 for almost 5 million phones."

Another area of manufacturing the company is looking at is a telecom duct. "We do telecom ducts our company Bharti Duraline does telecom ducts. If anything related with telecom but within this area, we would go and expand, not on the switching side."
