The BJP intends to explore the possibilities of an alternative government in Bihar over the next couple of months during which President's rule will be in force in the state. However, party leaders were waiting cautiously yesterday for President KR Narayanan to sign the order. They expected him to do it today.
They want an alternative government, either a coalition or a minority, in place before the winter session of Parliament commences, perhaps on November 16. They count on Laloo Prasad Yadav's flock of MLAs to split by then and hope that the Supreme Court would withdraw its stay against Yadav's arrest after a few weeks. The BJP's state unit has, however, publicly demanded elections.
