The RSS-affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has threatened to launch a stir against the BJP government if the proposed amendments to the Industrial Disputes Act (1947) are introduced.
BMS leader Hasubhai Dave has warned that these amendments could have farreaching consequences for employees both in the public and private sector.
As the Act stands now, Chapter 5 (b) of the Act says that if an employer wants to close down a company he has to take the permission of a 'competent authority' if he employes more than 100 workmen.

This clause of the Act is proposed to be amended and the figure of workmen employed increased to 1,000. This will give a free hand to employers to close down industries.
Another proposed change in the Act is to increase the wage ceiling for those seeking redress in industrial tribunals to Rs 10,000.
