Bullion Loses Lustre, Sugar Mixed, Metals Weak

Groundnut oil recovered on improved demand at reduced levels and restricted arrivals, while other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market here yesterday. Imported palmolein eased on better arrivals.

Groundnut oil improved by Rs 3 at Rs 345 per 10 kg. Arrivals were put at around 80-90 tonnes a day. Kardi and mowra oils went up by Rs 2 and Rs 5 to Rs 327 and Rs 235 per 10 kg on firm industrial demand.Copra oil white and soya oil refined declined Rs 10 and Rs 3 to Rs 510 and Rs 281 per 10 kg.Imported palmolein softened by Rs 1.50 at Rs 266.50 per 10 kg.

In futures section, December contract opened 50 paise up at Rs 1161 and firmed up to Rs 1166 a quintal. It declined to Rs 1161 before closing at Rs 1165.50 on subdued movements.

In oilseeds, castor seeds Madras and Maharashtra declined by Rs 4 each to Rs 1186 and Rs 1180 a quintal respectively on reduced industrial demand. All the other oilseeds ruled overall steady on narrow movements.

Sugar: A mixed trend was noticed at the wholesale sugar market . Medium grade sugar moved upward, while the small grade ruled subdued. Sugar M-30 improved to Rs 1510/1540 against the previous level of Rs 1508/1526 a quintal on limited inflow and better consumer offtake. S-30 ruled subdued to Rs 1490/1504 from the previous level of Rs 1486/1511 a quintal on moderate consumer demand.

Sugar for the check post deliveries were quoted low at Rs 1470/1485 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1490/1515 for the M-30 grade.

Non-ferrous metals : An easy-to-weak trend was witnessed in the local non-ferrous market yesterday. Metals ruled weak on reduced industrial offtake. The market undertone was hesitant.

In virgin section, nickel cathodes eased further by Re 1 at Rs 319 a kg. on dull offtake and good inflows. Copper wirebar and zinc slabs softened by 50 and 25 paise to Rs 128 and Rs 82.75 a kg respectively on dull industrial demand. Meanwhile, all the other metals ere nominally quoted as: aluminium ingots Rs 82, lead ingots Rs 41.50 and tin slabs Rs 310 a kg.

In scraps section, copper heavy scraps fell by Re 1 at Rs 118 a kg on weak upcountry advices and reduced industrial offtake. Copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings declined 50 paise each to Rs 109.50, Rs 95.50 and Rs 101.50 a kg respectively on sluggish demand and improved arrivals. Aluminium ingots rose Rs 1.50 to Rs 62.50.

Bullion : An easy-to-downward trend was noticed in the local bullion market. In white metals, both silver.999 and .916 declined by Rs 45 each to Rs 7335 and Rs 7235 a kg respectively on dull overseas advices coupled with modest industrial demand.

In yellow metals, standard gold and 22 carat gold eased further by Rs 5 each to Rs 4450 and Rs 4115 a kg. respectively on dull overseas advices and subdued demand. Gold biscuit prices softened further by Rs 100 at Rs 52,200 a piece of gold bar of 10 tolas.
