Bullion Slides, Groundnut Oil Slips, Sugar Firms Up

Groundnut oil reacted at higher levels on subdued offtake coupled with better arrivals from the producing centres whereas other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market here yesterday.

Groundnut oil eased by Re one at Rs 377 per 10 kg on subdued consumer demand coupled with modest arrivals.

Linseed oil and sesame oil declined by Rs five each to Rs 320 and Rs 340 per 10 kg on limited industrial demand, while copra oil white dipped by Rs 10 at Rs 490 per 10 kg on improved arrivals. Soya oil refined and sunflower oil expeller firmed up by Rs two and Rs five to Rs 323 and Rs 360 per 10 kg respectively on improved offtake. Rapeseed oil refined firmed up by Rs 3 to Rs 323 per 10 kg on firm industrial demand. Imported palmolein advanced further by Rs 2 at Rs 324 per 10 kg.

In the futures section, June contract opened Rs 4 lower at Rs 1239 and closed at Rs 1239.50 a quintal on speculative movement. In oilseeds, kardiseeds bold improved by Rs 50 at Rs 1450 a quintal.

Sugar : A firm-to-steady trend was noticed in sugar prices on better consumer offtake coupled with modest arrivals here yesterday. Both grades ruled slightly firm. The undertone of the market remained weak.

S-30 firmed up to Rs 1445/1475 from the previous level of Rs 1445/1470 a quintal on reduced demand coupled with normal arrivals. M-30 grade edged up to Rs 1465/1513 as against the previous level of Rs 1463/1510 a quintal on improved local demand coupled with normal arrivals.

Non-ferrous metals : A steady trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday.

In scraps section, all the metals ruled overall steady, and were nominally quoted as under: copper heavy scraps Rs 105, copper utensils Rs 93.25, brass utensils Rs 82.75, brass sheetcuttings Rs 87.25, and aluminium utensils Rs 62 a kg respectively on narrow movements. In virgin metals, totally quiet conditions were noticed and metals were quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 114.50, aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 70, lead ingots Rs 40, tin slabs Rs 345 and nickel cathodes Rs 310 a kg respectively on narrow movements.

Bullion: A weak-to-downward trend continued in the local bullion market yesterday. Both the precious metals ruled dull on weak overseas advices coupled with easy arrivals. The undertone of the market remained dull.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 dipped further by Rs 20 and Rs 45 to Rs 8745 and Rs 8,600 a kg respectively on weak overseas advices and better arrivals.

Both standard gold and 22 carat gold eased further by Rs 30 each to Rs 3990 and Rs 3690 per 10 grammes respectively on poor consumer interest. Gold biscuit prices also dipped further by Rs 300 at Rs 46,900 per piece of gold bar.
