Bullion Strikes Divergent Note, Groundnut Oil Eases

An easy trend was noticed in groundnut oil yesterday on reduced demand coupled with better inflows from the producing centres.

Other industrial oils ruled better-to -steady at the local wholesale oils and oilseeds market yesterday.

Groundnut oil eased by Rs 2 at Rs 443 per 10 kg on dull demand. Arrivals were put at around 90/100 tonne a day.

Linseed oil and kardi oil soared by Rs 10 each to Rs 405 and Rs 580 per 10 kg respectively. Sesame oil and copra oil white looked up further by Rs 5 each to Rs 425 and Rs 455 per 10 kg respectively.

Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities advanced further by Rs 5 each to Rs 310 and Rs 322 per 10 kg respectively. Imported palmolein firmed up by Re 1 at Rs 379 per 10 kg.

In the futures market, castorseeds September contract opened Rs 1 lower at Rs 1401 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1406. It declined to Rs 1401 before closing at Rs 1402 a quintal on speculative movements.

Castorseeds Mah-arashtra and Madras advanced further by Rs 24 each to Rs 1392 and Rs 1386 a quintal respectively.

Sugar : A divergent trend was witnessed in sugar prices at the wholesale sugar market here yesterday.

The undertone of the market was weak. S-30 eased further to Rs 1450/1475 a quintal from the previous level of Rs 1450/1480 on reduced demand. M-30 firmed up to Rs 1475/1515 as against the previous level of Rs 1470/1515 a quintal.

Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1435/1450 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1450/1475 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous Metals : An easy to trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. Copper heavy scraps and aluminium utensils declined further by 50 paise each to Rs 117 and Rs 64 a kg respectively while copper utensils and brass utensils firmed up by 50 paise each to Rs 101 and Rs 89.50 a kg respectively.

Nickel cathodes declined further by Rs 3 to Rs 298 a kg on better arrivals coupled with weak overseas advices.

Aluminium ingots eased by 50 paise at Rs 82.50 a kg.on sluggish demand. Other metals were nominally quoted as under : copper wirebar Rs 132.50, zinc slabs Rs 80.50, lead ingots Rs 43 and tin slabs Rs 365 a kg respectively.

Bullion : A divergent trend was noticed in the local bullion market yesterday. Both precious metals ruled in opposite directions.

Silver .999 and .916 firmed up by Rs 30 and Rs 20 to Rs 7,605 and Rs 7,490 a kg respectively on better overseas advices coupled with limited upcountry arrivals against modest demand.

Both- standard gold and 22 carat gold eased further by Rs 15 and Rs 10 to Rs 4,170 and Rs 3,860 per 10 grammes respectively. Gold biscuit prices also declined by Rs 200 at Rs 48,900 per piece of gold bar on dull movements.
