Bullion Tumbles, Gnut Oil Improves, Sugar Mixed

Groundnut oil firmed up further yesterday while other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market yesterday. Imported palmolein ruled firm. In the futures section, castorseeds June contract opened higher and firmed up further towards closing.

Groundnut oil gained Re 1 at Rs 423 per 10 kg on subdued consumer demand coupled with limited arrivals. Arrivals were put at around 80/85 tonne a day.

Kardi and sunflower oil expeller declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 540 and Rs 400 per 10 kg respectively on reduced industrial demand coupled with better arrivals. Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities firmed up by Rs 2 each to Rs 281 and Rs 293 per 10 kg respectively. Copra oil white and rapeseed oil refined looked up by Rs 5 each to Rs 455 and Rs 383 per 10 kg respectively. Imported palmolein gained Rs 2 at Rs 384 per 10 kg.

In the futures market, castorseeds June contract opened Rs 1.50 up at Rs 1262.50 a quintal and improved further to Rs 1286. It later declined to Rs 1262.50 before finally closing to Rs 1282.50 a quintal on speculative movement.

Sugar: An easy-to-subdued trend prevailed at the wholesale sugar market, yesterday. The undertone of the market was weak.

Sugar S-30 eased to Rs 1520/1540 against the previous level of Rs 1500/1560 a quintal on easy availability of ready stock. Demand was subdued against normal arrivals. Sugar M-30 softened to Rs 1530/1585 a quintal (Rs 1545/1580) on reduced buying interest.

Sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1505/1510 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1520/1560 a quintal for the M-30 grade.

Non-ferrous metals: A firm-to-steady trend was seen in non-ferrous metals yesterday.

In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps and aluminium utensils firmed up by 50 paise each to Rs 114 and Rs 62.50 a kg on improved industrial offtake. Copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings looked up by 25 paise each to Rs 99.25, Rs 88.75 and Rs 92 a kg respectively.

In virgin section, copper wirebar improved by 50 paise at Rs 129.50 a kg.

Other metals were quoted as under : aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 74.50, lead ingots Rs 42, tin slabs Rs 357 and nickel cathodes Rs 315 a kg respectively.

Bullion: An easy trend was noticed in the bullion market yesterday. Both precious metals ruled weak. Silver .999 and .916 declined by Rs 60 and Rs 40 to Rs 8610 and Rs 8500 a kg respectively on weak overseas advices and better upcountry arrivals.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold eased by Rs 10 each to Rs 4,150 and Rs 3,840 per 10 grammes respectively on dull consumer demand. Gold biscuit prices also weakened by Rs 100 to Rs 48,700 per piece of gold bar.
