The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) yesterday cleared two major power projects which will be executed by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for creating an additional capacity of 1,400 mw.
The projects approved by CCEA include the Simhadri thermal unit in Andhra Pradesh which will come up at a cost of Rs 3,650 crore. It consist of two units of 500 mw each. It will feed power to Andhra Pradesh grid.
The CCEA also gave its approval to a 400 MW project, the Faridabad gas power-stage I, which will come up at a cost of Rs 1,163 crore. The project will be partly financed by the Overseas Economic Co-operation Fund of Japan. This NTPC project will feed power to Haryana, an official spokesman said.

The group of ministers concerned with taking a decision on the report of the pay commission also met yesterday, but did not reach a decision.
The Union Cabinet, which also met yesterday, has approved a proposal to sign an investment promotion and protection agreement with Uzbekistan. Negotiations are now going on for signing a similar agreement with Canada, Singapore, Australia and Japan, the spokesman added.
The agreement covers intellectual property rights, provisions of the WTO and the issue of according MFN status.
