Carrier Aircon In Plans To Treble Turnover

Carrier Aircon has chalked out an ambitious plan to more than treble its turnover to Rs 1000 crore in the next three years and increase its market share to 35 per cent. The company presently has a market share of 25 per cent.

This was disclosed by the managing director of the company, Stephen Young, at a press conference here. The company plans to do this by increasing manufacturing capacity, expanding dealer network, launching new products and focusing on the eight mega cities in India.

The company's turnover touched Rs 300 crore in 1996-97 and it is hopeful of a Rs 350 crore turnover in 1997-98. Carrier plans to increase capacity to 60,000 units from 45,000 nos in the room AC segment. The manufacturing capacity of compressors is to be hiked to 2lakhs from 1.2 lakh in the next three years. Carrier already has over 400 exclusive dealers.

Company officials feel its growth will be propelled by the urban population in the eight mega cities. R C Sarin, Carrier Aircon, chairman pointed out there was a vast possibility for growth as only one per cent of the Indians owned air-conditioners.

In contrast, 45 per cent owned radios, 35 per cent owned TVs, 10 per cent owned refrigerators and about five per cent owned cars.

Servicing will be another thrust area for the company and the focus will be on providing more value to the customer. Sales persons will be trained to be solution providers.

Carrier Aircon launched two new ACs, Carrier Cassette and Europa, here yesterday.

The former is being targeted at the upper end of the market and will come in two types, the 1.3 tonne and 1.7 tonne.

The Europa too is available in two models, 1 tonne and 1.l5tonne. Targeted at the middle segment it is priced at Rs 25,000 and Rs 29,000 respectively.
