Andhra Pradesh's State Wide Area Network, APSWAN, became operational yesterday morning with the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and senior officials at the Secretariat here holding a video conference with collectors and other district officials to review the progress of various welfare programmes.

When APSWAN was formally launched yesterday morning, connectivity, both voice and video, could be established with only 18 of the 23 districts and the towns of Vijayawada and Tirupathi. The remaining five districts could not be linked "due to some technical snags which will go in due course", Naidu said.

All the officials in the districts reported that they were receiving "clear voice and immaculate video pictures".
