The government has released 175 million kg of cotton yarn under ceiling for exports to non-quota countries during the calendar year 1998.
"The government has responded positively by releasing cotton yarn for the entire year without deviding the quantity into six monthly tranches and with the existing exemptions," said G Devrajan, chairman, Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil). He said the pragmatic policy of the government has enabled the exports of cotton yarn to achieve a growth rate of 65 per cent during 1996 as compared with the previous year.
Exports of yarn are expected to increase further by 33 per cent during 1997 over the record exports of 1996, Devrajan added.
