Speculators unwound their long positions as the long weekend ahead, coupled with anti-MNC statements by Samata Party leader, George Fernandes, affected trading sentiment.
The mood at the bourses yesterday was generally lacklustre as players were keenly awaiting the developments in Delhi.
The SAIL scrip witnessed renewed trading interest yesterday with over 45 lakh shares changing hands on the BSE. The scrip closed on the BSE at Rs 8.75, a gain of Rs 0.55 over the previous close. On the NSE, 12.05 lakh shares were traded yesterday with the price edging up by Rs 0.35 to close at Rs 8.40.

The Deepak Fertilisers scrip gained significantly yesterday on renewed buying interest. On the BSE, 2.43 lakh shares were traded with the scrip closing at Rs 14.50, a gain of Rs 1.75 over the previous close. Marketmen said that punters were targetting the scrip in anticipation of favourable results from the company.
The Coats Viyella scrip came under sharp selling pressure immediately after the announcement of its results. Despite good results from the company. the scrip shed Rs four on the BSE to close at Rs 54. Marketmen said large positions which had been built up at the counter at lower levels were unwound yesterday as small investors rushed to the counter.
The Pentafour Software scrip continued to head south on sustained selling pressure, closing at Rs 305.50 on the BSE , a loss of Rs 20 over the previous close. It had touched an intra-day low of Rs 288.
The Sterlite scrip continued to buck the bearish trend at the bourses, edging up Rs 14 on the BSE to close at Rs 232.
The Reliance and ITC scrips continued to witnessed sustained trading interest. The ITC stock touched new 52-week highs during intra-day trading.
The HLL scrip witnessed a flurry of activity on the NSE with 5.33 lakh shares being traded yesterday. The scrip has been witnessing hectic trading activity ever since it entered its no-delivery period this week.
