Foodgrain stocks in the country has gone down by 14.3 per cent to 18.27 million tonne (mt) compared with 21.32 mt last year. As on November 1, 1997, stocks of both rice and wheat were down at 10.24 mt and 8.03 mt compared with 11.60 mt and 9.72 mt respectively on the corresponding period last year, according to the latest official monthly economic report. However, foodgrains stocks have improved from its level of 15.34 mt on October 1, 1997, with rice stocks increasing from 7.04 mt to 10.24 mt in one month's time.
