A firm trend continued in groundnut oil yesterday on paucity of ready stock owing to tight supplies. Most of the edible oils ruled easy-to-subdued at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market here yesterday. Imported palmolein ruled firm.
In the futures market, the September '98 contract remained untraded yesterday, while that of December '98 opened higher and advanced further towards closing. Groundnut oil firmed up by Rs two at Rs 545 per 10 kg. Arrivals were placed around 70 tonne a day.
In other oils, castor oil commercial and BSS qualities registered a spurt of Rs 12 each to Rs 430 and Rs 442 per 10 kg, respectively.

Ricebran oil and sunflower oil expeller dipped by Rs two each to Rs 230 and Rs 410 per 10 kg, respectively, while sesame oil firmed up by Rs five to Rs 430 per 10 kg. Imported palmolein were nominally quoted at Rs 358 per 10 kg.
In the futures, the December contract opened Rs 24 higher at Rs 1,718 and declined to Rs 1,718 before closing at Rs 1,737 a quintal.
In oilseeds, castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra qualities improved by Rs 58 each to Rs 1,968 and Rs 1,962 a quintal, respectively. Kardiseeds moved up by Rs 50 to Rs 1,950 a quintal.
Sugar: A mixed trend was noticed in sugar prices at the wholesale sugar market yesterday.
Sugar S-30 eased to Rs 1,470/1,495 a quintal, while sugar M-30 marginally firmed up to Rs 1,485/1,545 a quintal.
Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,440/1,455 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,470/1,480 a quintal for M-30.
Non-ferrous metals: A quiet trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. Both the metals ruled steady-to-easy.
In virgin metals, all the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 123.50, aluminium ingots Rs 85.50, zinc slabs Rs 79, lead ingots Rs 45, tin slabs Rs 382 and nickel cathodes Rs 255 a kg.
In the scraps section, all the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under: copper heavy scraps Rs 108.50, copper utensils Rs 94.50, brass utensils Rs 83.00, brass sheetcuttings Rs 87.00 and aluminium utensils Rs 63.00 a kg, respectively.
Bullion: A divergent trend was noticed in the local bullion market yesterday.
In white metals, silver .999 eased by Rs five at Rs 7,900 a kg, while .916 firmed up by Rs 15 to Rs 7,790 a kg. Delhi advices also indicated a moderate trend.
In yellow metals, both -- standard gold and 22-carat gold firmed up by Rs 10 each to Rs 4,210 and Rs 3,895 per 10 grams, respectively. Gold biscuit prices advanced by Rs 100 at Rs 49,500 per piece of gold bar.
