An easy trend was noticed in groundnut oil, while most other edible oils ruled easy-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market here yesterday. Imported palmolein ruled firm.
In the futures market, the December '98 contract opened lower but firmed up marginally towards closing.
Groundnut oil declined by Rs 5 at Rs 610 per 10 kg. In other oils, linseed oil and kardi oil declined by Rs 5 and Rs 10 to Rs 465 and Rs 650 per 10 kg, respectively.

Copra oil white and sunflower oil expeller advanced by Rs 5 and Rs 7 to Rs 540 and Rs 422 per 10 kg, respectively.
Neem oil and soya oil refined firmed up by Rs 10 and Rs 3 to Rs 275 and Rs 395 per 10 kg, respectively, while imported palmolein improved by Rs 3 at Rs 385 per 10 kg.
In futures, the December contract opened Rs 20 lower at Rs 1,670 and closed at Rs 1,671 a quintal.
In oilseeds, kardi seeds improved by Rs 50 to Rs 1,900 per quintal, while castorseeds Madras and Maharashstra declined further by Rs 38 to Rs 2,002 and Rs 1,996 per quintal.
Sugar: A steady-to-subdued trend was noticed in sugar prices yesterday. Both the grades of sugar ruled easy on dull demand.
Sugar S-30 ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted at Rs 1,455/1,480 a quintal, whereas sugar M-30 ruled subdued at Rs 1,485/1,530 a quintal.
Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted higher at Rs 1,418/1,440 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,447/1,462 a quintal for M-30.
Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady trend was witnessed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps declined further by 50 paise, while copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheet cuttings eased by 25 paise each to Rs 100.50, Rs 91.25, Rs 84.25 and Rs 86.00 a kg, respectively. Aluminium utensils ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted at Rs 63.50 a kg.
In virgin metals, tin slabs and nickel cathodes declined by Rs 2 and Rs 4 to Rs 384 and Rs 251 a kg, respectively. Copper wirebar and zinc slabs eased by 50 paise each to Rs 115 and Rs 77.50 a kg, respectively. Meanwhile, all other metals were nominally quoted as under: aluminium ingots Rs 86 and lead ingots Rs 45.50 a kg, respectively.
Bullion: A weak trend was noticed in both the precious metals yesterday.
In white metals, silver .999 and .916 declined further by Rs 130 and Rs 115 to Rs 7,705 and Rs 7,595 a kg, respectively.
In yellow metals, standard gold and 22-carat gold softened further by Rs 20 each to Rs 4,330 and Rs 4,005 per 10 grams, respectively. The demand was dull. Gold biscuit prices also declined further by Rs 500 at Rs 50,000 per piece.
