G'Nut Oil, Sugar Decline; Precious Metals Glitter

A weak trend continued in groundnut oil while most of the other edible oils ruled easy-to-subdued at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Imported palmolein ruled easy.

In the futures market, the September `98 contract remained untraded yesterday, while that of December `98 opened higher and recovered further towards closing.

Groundnut oil declined further by Rs 8 at Rs 570 per 10 kg. In other oils, castor oil commercial and BSS qualities improved by Rs 11 each to Rs 544 and Rs 556 per 10 kg, respectively.

Sesame oil and copra oil white firmed by Rs 10 and Rs 5 to Rs 450 and Rs 480 per 10 kg, respectively, while neem oil eased by Rs 5 to Rs 255 per 10 kg. Karanji oil expeller eased by Rs 3 to Rs 225 per 10 kg, while imported palmolein eased by Re 1 at Rs 377 per 10 kg.

In the futures section, the December contract closed at Rs 1,928 a quintal, while in oilseeds, castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra qualities improved by Rs 53 each to Rs 2,515 and Rs 2,509 a quintal, respectively.

Sugar: A subdued-to-easy trend continued in sugar prices at the wholesale sugar market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday.

Sugar S-30 weakened to Rs 1,400/1,425, while sugar M-30 declined to Rs 1,440/1,489 a quintal.

Sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,383/1,395 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,407/1,415 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: A firm-to-steady trend were noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. Scraps metals ruled firm, while most of the virgin metals ruled steady.

In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps firmed up marginally by 50 paise at Rs 106.50, while copper utensils and brass utensils looked up by 25 paise each to Rs 93.75 and Rs 86.75 a kg, respectively. Meanwhile, brass sheetcuttings and aluminium utensils were nominally quoted at Rs 88.75 and Rs 63.50 a kg, respectively.

In virgin metals, tin slabs improved by Rs 2 at Rs 372 a kg, while zinc slabs firmed up further by 50 paise at Rs 79.50 a kg. Meanwhile, all other metals were nominally quoted as under : copper wire bar Rs 119.50, aluminium ingots Rs 86, and lead ingots Rs 45.50.

Bullion: An upward-to-firm trend was noticed in both the precious metals at the local bullion market yesterday.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 improved by Rs 100 and Rs 125 to Rs 7,480 and Rs 7,380 a kg, respectively.

In yellow metals, standard gold and 22-carat gold firmed up by Rs 10 each to Rs 4,185 and Rs 3,870 per 10 grams on better overseas advices. Gold biscuit prices also advanced by Rs 300 at Rs 49,300 per one piece.
