G'Nut Oil, Sugar Firm Up, Bullion Rules Divergent

A firm trend continued in groundnut oil, while most other edible oils ruled firm-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market here yesterday.

Groundnut oil advanced further by Rs 5 at Rs 615 per 10 kg. Linseed oil and ricebran oil advanced by Rs 5 each to Rs 470 and Rs 230 per 10 kg, respectively.

Cottonseed oil washed and copra oil white improved by Rs 5 and Rs 10 to Rs 435 and Rs 510 per 10 kg, respectively. Soya oil refined looked up by Rs 2 at Rs 396 per 10 kg. Kardi oil dropped by Rs 20 at Rs 660 per 10 kg on brisk arrivals against limited industrial offtake. Imported palmolein firmed up marginally by Rs 2 at Rs 389 per 10 kg.

December contract opened Re 1 lower at Rs 1,730 a quintal and ruled steady at the same level. It declined to Rs 1706 before closing at Rs 1710 a quintal.

Sugar: A firm trend was witnessed in prices at the wholesale sugar market yesterday. Both grades ruled firm. Sugar S-30 firmed up to Rs 1460/1480 a quintal from the previous level of Rs 1450/1455.

Sugar M-30 advanced to Rs 1470/1534 a quintal against the previous day's level of Rs 1473/1515 on improved consumer demand.

Sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted higher at Rs 1435/1445 a quintal for sugar S-30 and Rs 1455/1480 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals :Calm conditions were witnessed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday.

Both sections ruled steady. The undertone remained weak.

Metals in the scrap sections were nominally quoted as under : copper heavy scraps Rs 102, copper utensils Rs 92.00, brass utensils Rs 85.00, brass sheetcuttings Rs 87.00 and aluminium utensils Rs 63.50 a kg, respectively.

In virgin metals, copper wirebar Rs 116.50, aluminium ingots Rs 86.00, zinc slabs Rs 78.50, lead ingots Rs 45.50, tin slabs Rs 386 and nickel cathodes Rs 255 a kg, respectively Bullion: A mixed trend was noticed in both precious metals at the local bullion market yesterday.

Silver ruled steady while the yellow metal eased. Silver .999 was nominally quoted at Rs 7,900 a kg. Silver .916 advanced further by Rs 20 at Rs 7,770 a kg on strong improved local demand coupled with restricted availability.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold softened by Rs 15 and Rs 10 to Rs 4,300 and Rs 3,980 per 10 grams respectively on weak overseas advices.

Gold biscuit tags also declined by Rs 300 at Rs 50,700 per piece of gold biscuit on subdued consumer offtake.
