The West Bengal State Electricity Board (WBSEB) has sought loans worth Rs 269 crore from the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) for enhancing the capacity of its Rammam and Jaldhaka hydroelectric project, setting up a new station and refurbishing old hydel units.
The loans have been sought under the government of India's special programme for accelerating the development of hydel power projects.
If the benefits from these projects are available before March, 2004, the loans will carry a concessional 8.5 per cent rate of interest.

The 51 mw Rammam hydel project currently has an annual generating capacity of 180 million unit of energy.
The board has submitted a scheme to the PFC to enhance the generating capacity by drawing additional water from another stream_the Lodhama Khola. This would raise the generating potential by at least 50 mu or by nearly 30 per cent.
