Gnut Oil Edges Up, Sugar Firm, Bullion Mixed

A firm trend continued in groundnut oil on restricted arrivals coupled with improved demand, whereas other industrial oils ruled firm-to-upward at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday.

In the futures section, castor seeds March 98 remained untraded while June contract opened higher and firmed up further towards closing.

Groundnut oil edged up further by Rs three at Rs 388 per 10 kg. Arrivals were put at around 70/ 80 tonne a day.

In other oils, linseed oil and kardi oil advanced further by Rs 10 each to Rs 360 and Rs 460 per 10 kg, respectively. Cottonseed oil washed and refined qualities looked up by Rs four each to Rs 350 and Rs 354 per 10 kg, respectively.

In the futures section, June contract closed at Rs 1,262 a quintal. In oilseeds, castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra quality advanced further by Rs five each to Rs 1,219 and Rs 1,213 per quintal, respectively. Groundnuts - Karad bold Saurashtra bold - improved by Rs 10 each to Rs 1,950 and Rs 1,970 a quintal.

Sugar: A firm-to-upward trend was witnessed in sugar prices at the local wholesale sugar market yesterday. Both the grades of sugar ruled firm. Sugar S-30 firmed up further to Rs 1,418/1,445 as against the previous level of Rs 1,400/1,440 a quintal. Sugar M-30 improved to Rs 1,445/1,495 (Rs 1,440/1,490 a quintal).

Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,393/1,420 a quintal for the S-30 grade, while Rs 1,420/1,470 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: A weak-to-steady trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday.

In virgin metals, tin slabs and nickel cathodes declined by Rs two each to Rs 341 and Rs 308 a kg, respectively. Copper wirebar eased by 50 paise at Rs 116.50 a kg.

Meanwhille, all the other metals were nominally quoted as under: aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 70 and lead ingots Rs 40 a kg, respectively.

In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps and copper utensils declined by 50 paise each to Rs 106.50 and Rs 93.50 a kg, respectively, while brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings eased by 25 paise each to Rs 84 and Rs 88.25 a kg, respectively.

Bullion: A mixed trend was noticed in the local bullion market yesterday.

In white metals, silver .999 eased by Rs 10 at Rs 8,550 a kg, while that of .916 advanced further by Rs 10 to Rs 8,440 per kg.

In yellow metals, both standard gold and 22-carat gold ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted at Rs 3,990 and Rs 3,690 per 10 grammes, respectively. The overseas advices also indicated steady trend. Gold biscuit prices also ruled steady at Rs 46,900 per piece of gold bar.
