Gnut Oil, Gold Steady; Metals In A Groove

Groundnut oil held overall steady at Rs 437 per 10 kg on subdued consumer demand at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Arrivals were put at around 80 tonne a day. Other industrial oils ruled better-to-firm, while imported palmolein ruled firm.

In other oils, linseed oil and neem oil firmed up by Rs five each to Rs 400 and Rs 195 per 10 kg, respectively. Cottonseed oil washed and refined quality looked up by Rs 4 and Rs 7 to Rs 390 and Rs 395 per 10 kg, respectively. Sunflower oil expeller and rapeseed oil refined soared by Rs 10 and Rs 9 to Rs 405 and Rs 387 per 10 kg, respectively.

Copra oil declined by Rs 30 to Rs 460 per 10 kg. Imported palmolein improved further by Rs four at Rs 375 per 10 kg. In the futures section, June contract opened Rs five lower at Rs 1,298 a quintal and closed at Rs 1,299.50 a quintal.

In oilseeds, groundnuts - karad bold and saurashtra bold improved by Rs 10 each to Rs 1,970 and Rs 1,990 a quintal, respectively. Kardiseeds and niger seeds looked by Rs 25 and Rs 50 to Rs 1,650 and Rs 1,500 a quintal, respectively. Castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra qualities declined by Rs 15 each to Rs 1,267 and Rs 1,261 a quintal, respectively.

Sugar: An easy-to-subdued trend was noticed in sugar prices at the local sugar market yesterday.

Sugar S-30 ruled at Rs 1,465/1,510 against the previous level of Rs 1,475/1,505 a quintal, while sugar M-30 eased to Rs 1,500/1,565.

Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,445/1,465 a quintal for S-30, while Rs 1,490/1,515 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: A steady trend was witnessed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps looked up by 25 paise to Rs 109 a kg.

The other metals were nominally quoted as under: copper utensils Rs 94.50, brass utensils Rs 85, brass sheetcuttings Rs 89 and aluminium utensils Rs 62 a kg, respectively.

In virgin section, all the metals were nominally quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 119, aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 72, lead ingots Rs 41, tin slabs Rs 345 and nickel cathodes Rs 310 a kg, respectively.

Bullion: A mixed trend was noticed in the local bullion market yesterday. In white metals, silver .999 and .916 improved by Rs 140 and Rs 95 to Rs 8,940 and Rs 8,840 a kg, respectively.

In yellow metals, both- standard gold and 22-carat gold ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted at Rs 4,250 and Rs 3,930 per 10 grammes, respectively. Gold biscuit prices held steady at Rs 49,800 per piece of gold bar.
