Gnut Oil Remains Firm; Sugar, Bullion Harden

Groundnut oil continued to advance on paucity of ready stock, better demand against restricted arrivals, whereas other industrial oils ruled better-to-firm at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Imported palmolein ruled firm.

In the futures section, castor seeds June contract opened higher and improved further towards closing.

Groundnut oil shot up further by Rs 10 at Rs 417 per 10 kg. Arrivals were put at around 75 tonne a day.

In other oils, linseed oil and kardi oil advanced by Rs five each to Rs 375 and Rs 480 per 10 kg, respectively.

Sunflower oil expeller and karanji oil soared by Rs 10 each to Rs 382 and Rs 180 per 10 kg, respectively.

Copra oil white declined by Rs five at Rs 480 per 10 kg.

Imported palmolein improved further by Rs four at Rs 361 per 10 kg.

In the futures section, June contract opened Rs 6.50 higher at Rs 1,298.50 a quintal and closed at Rs 1,306.50 a quintal on speculative movements.

In oilseeds, linseed and sesame seeds improved by Rs 50 each to Rs 1,350 and Rs 1,850 a quintal, respectively.

Sugar: A firm trend was noticed in sugar prices at the local sugar market yesterday. Sugar M-30 improved to Rs 1,463/1,520, while Sugar S-30 firmed to Rs 1,428/1,460.

Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,415/1,435 a quintal for S-30, while Rs 1,460/1,475 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: Copper and tin witnessed a firm trend while other metals ruled steady in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. In the virgin section, tin slabs improved by Rs three at Rs 343 a kg.

Copper wirebar firmed up by 50 paise at Rs 118 a kg on better industrial offtake.

Meanwhile, all the other metals were nominally quoted as under: aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 72, lead ingots Rs 41 and nickel cathodes Rs 308 a kg, respectively. In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps looked up by 50 paise at Rs 108 a kg.

Bullion: A firm-to-upward trend continued in the local bullion market yesterday.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 improved further by Rs 105 and Rs 125 to Rs 8,975 and Rs 8,865 a kg, respectively.

In yellow metals, both- standard gold and 22-carat gold firmed up further by Rs 90 and Rs 80 to Rs 4,250 and Rs 3,930 per 10 grammes, respectively.

Gold biscuit prices improved further by Rs 1,200 at Rs 49,900 per piece of gold bar on short-supply of ready stock and improved consumer demand.
