In a bid to facilitate development of cutting edge technologies in information technology, ministry for IT and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, signed an MoU to boost research and development in the area. The objective of the MoU is to establish two centers of excellence to promote advance research education, HRD and application development in critical areas of IT. The possibility of setting up Media Labs of MIT is being worked out. Out of the two centres of excellence to be established, one small be based in India and the other shall be located at MlT, Cambridge. The two centers will enable organisations in India to gain access to latest ideas and concepts developed in the US. The proposed centres will also serve to incubate new ideas leading to new products and technology to enhance the competitive edge of the IT industry in India.
