Groundnut Oil, Bullion Firm Up, Sugar Dips On Quota News

Groundnut oil firmed up by Rs 2 at Rs 370 per 10 kg on modest demand coupled with normal arrivals of stock. The trading volume was thin and arrivals were moderate from overseas centres yesterday. Out-of-state orders indicated an easy trend.

Castorseed oil commercial and FSG qualities declined by Rs 2 each to Rs 412 and Rs 424 per 10 kg, respectively. Sesame oil and kardi oil dipped by Rs 5 and Rs 10 to Rs 295 and Rs 310 per 10 kg, respectively. Imported RBD palmolein weakened by Rs 2 at 225 per 10 kg on dull movements.

Castor oil international contract April-2000 ended untraded yesterday while contract June-2000 opened steady at the previous level of Rs 431 per 10 kg and ruled at the same level.

In oilseeds, castor seeds eased by Rs 10 at Rs 1,910 a quintal on dull industrial interest. While kardi seeds firmed up by Rs 10 at Rs 1,085 a quintal on better industrial demand. Meanwhile, all the other oilseeds ruled overall steady.

Sugar: An easy-to-subdued trend witnessed at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. Both the grades of sugar ruled dull. Allocation of additional sugar quota of 10,000 tonne to the state for May weakened the market sentiment.

S-30 eased to Rs 1,497-1,550 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,505-1,550. M-30 declined to Rs 1,540-1,600 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,550-1,600. Sugar prices for check-post were quoted higher at Rs 1,470-1,505 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,510-1,535 for the medium grade yesterday.

Non-ferrous metals: Tin firmed up, nickel eased while all the other metals ruled quiet in the non-ferrous metals at the local market yesterday.

In virgins, nickel cathodes eased by Rs 5 at Rs 575 a kg on sluggish industrial demand against improved arrivals of imported materials. Tin slabs looked up by Rs 6 to Rs 380 a kg on better industrial demand and limited inflows. Meanwhile, all the other metals held overall steady and were nominally quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 122.50, aluminium ingots Rs 89.50, zinc slabs Rs 88.00 and lead ingots Rs 36.00 a kg, respectively.

In scraps, all the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as: copper heavy scraps Rs 115.00, copper utensils Rs 98.00, brass utensils Rs 87.25, brass sheetcuttings Rs 94.25 and aluminium utensils Rs 68.50 a kg, respectively, on narrow movements.

Bullion: A firm trend was noticed in precious metals prices at the local bullion market yesterday. Both the precious metals ruled upward.

Silver .999 and .916 improved by Rs 15 and Rs 10 to Rs 8,030 and Rs 7,900 a kg, respectively.

Standard gold and 22-carat gold prices firmed up by Rs 10 each to Rs 4,475 and Rs 4,140 per 10 gm, respectively. Gold biscuits prices also improved by Rs 100 at Rs 52,200 per piece on better offtake and nominal inflows of stock and moderate trading movements.
