Groundnut Oil Continues Ascend, Touches Rs 600

Groundnut oil shot up on hectic festive demand and reduced availability of ready stock. Most of the other edible oils ruled easy-to-subdued at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Groundnut oil soared by Rs 15 at Rs 600 per 10 kg in the absence of arrivals from the producing centres. In other oils, castor oil commercial and BSS qualities firmed up further by Rs 2 each to Rs 482 and Rs 494 per 10 kg respectively. Mowra oil and neem oil moved up further by Rs 2 each to Rs 340 and Rs 260 per 10 kg respectively. Kardi oil and sunflower oil expeller improved by Rs 5 each to Rs 630 and Rs 415 per 10 kg respectively.

In futures, December contract opened Rs 10 higher at Rs 1,845 a quintal, moved up to Rs 1,865, declined to Rs 1,845 before closing at Rs 1,865 a quintal on speculative movements.

In oilseeds, castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra qualities advanced further by Rs 10 each to Rs 2,218 and Rs 2,212 a quintal respectively.

Sugar: A mixed trend was noticed in prices at the wholesale sugar market yesterday. The undertone of the market was weak.

Sugar S-30 firmed up marginally to Rs 1,421/1,470 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,425/1,455. Sugar M-30 weakened further to Rs 1,460/1,525 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,460/1,502 on subdued offtake. Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,420/1,430 a quintal for the S-30 grade and Rs 1,445/1,465 a quintal for the M-30 grade.

Non-ferrous metals: A steady-to-easy condition was noticed in the local market yesterday. Most of the metals ruled weak and the undertone remained weak.

In virgin metals, zinc slabs firmed up marginally by 50 paise at Rs 78.50 a kg. All the other metals ruled overall steady, and were nominally quoted as under : copper wirebar Rs 121, aluminium ingots Rs 85.50, lead ingots Rs 45.00, tin slabs Rs 380 and nickel cathodes Rs 253 per kg respectively. In the scraps section, all the metals ruled overall steady, and were nominally quoted as under : copper heavy scraps Rs 107, copper utensils Rs 93.25, brass utensils Rs 81.75, brass sheetcuttings Rs 85.75 and aluminium utensils Rs 63 a kg respectively on narrow movements.

Bullion: A mixed trend was noticed in the local market yesterday. While silver ruled weak, gold remained steady. The undertone of the market remained weak.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 declined by Rs 60 and Rs 45 to Rs 7,760 and Rs 7,655 per kg respectively. In yellow metals, both standard gold and 22 carat gold ruled overall steady, and were quoted at Rs 4,200 and Rs 3,885 per 10 grams respectively. Gold biscuit prices eased further by Rs 100 at Rs 49,000 per bar.
