Groundnut Oil Marches Ahead, Bullion Insipid

Groundnut oil further firmed up on reduced inflows. Demand remained dull at the higher levels. Other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady. Imported palmolein ruled firm.

In the futures market, the September contract opened lower but firmed up towards close. Groundnut oil improved further by Rs 8 at Rs 496 per 10 kg. Arrivals were placed around 85/90 tonnes.

In other oils, mowra and sesame firmed up by Rs 5 and Rs 7 to Rs 380 and Rs 442 per 10 kg respectively. Copra oil white suffered a setback and slipped by Rs 5 at Rs 480 per 10 kg. Sunflower oil expeller gained Rs 15 at Rs 445 per 10 kg. Imported palmolein looked up further by Rs 2 at Rs 378 per 10 kg. The majority of other oils ruled overall steady on narrow movement.

In the futures market, castorseed September contract opened Re 1 lower at Rs 1,434 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1,441. It declined to Rs 1,434 before closing at Rs 1,438. In oilseeds, castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra looked up by Rs 4 each to Rs 1,430 and Rs 1,424 a quintal. Groundnut, Karad bold and Saurashtra bold, improved by Rs 10 each to Rs 2,040 and Rs 2,060 a quintal. Nigerseeds Madras firmed up by Rs 50 at Rs 1,950. All other oilseeds ruled overall steady.

Sugar: A divergent trend was seen in sugar here yesterday. Medium grade sugar showed an improvement while the small grade indicated an easy trend.

Sugar S-30 eased to Rs 1,455/1,467 a quintal against the previous Rs 1,453/1,470. Sugar M-30 firmed up to Rs 1,480/1,540 a quintal against previous Rs 1,476/1,515. Arrivals too remained subdued.

Sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,438/1,448 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,458/1,498 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady trend continued on the local non-ferrous metals market.

In the virgin section, tin slabs declined by Rs 3 at Rs 377 a kg. Copper wirebar eased by 50 paise at Rs 131.50 a kg. All other metals ruled overall steady. Aluminium ingots was quoted at Rs 83 a kg, zinc slabs at Rs 78, lead ingots at Rs 43.50 and nickel cathodes at Rs 292 a kg respectively.

In scraps, copper heavy eased by 50 paise while copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings eased further by 25 paise each to Rs 114.50, Rs 103.00, Rs 88.75 and Rs 92.50 a kg respectively.

Bullion: A weak trend was in evidence at the local bullion market. Both precious metals ruled dull.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 declined by Rs 100 and Rs 75 to Rs 8,000 and Rs 7,875 a kg respectively on weak overseas advices. Delhi advices too indicated a moderate trend.

In yellow metals, both, standard gold and .22 carat eased further by Rs 5 each to Rs 4,285 and Rs 3,965 per 10 grammes respectively. Gold biscuit prices too weakened further by Rs 150 at Rs 50,400 per piece.
