Groundnut Oil Nosedives; Sugar, Bullion Rule Easy

A weak trend was noticed in groundnut oil at the whole sale oil and oilseeds market here yesterday.

It fell by Rs 6 at Rs 475 per 10 kg on improved arrivals due to the end of the C&F staff strike at the docks.

Linseed oil and sesame oil fell by Rs 7 and Rs 5 to Rs 448 and Rs 435 per 10 kg respectively. Kardi oil and copra oil white declined by Rs 10 and Rs 30 to Rs 590 and Rs 455 per 10 kg respectively on improved arrivals against subdued industrial demand. Cottonseed oil washed and refined qualities eased by Rs 2 each to Rs 413 and Rs 415 per 10 kg respectively.

Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities firmed up further by Rs 4 each to Rs 315 and Rs 327 per 10 kg respectively. Imported palmolein nose-dived by Rs 24 at Rs 386 per 10 kg on sluggish industrial demand.

Castorseeds September contract opened 50 paise lower at Rs 1419 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1422.50.

It declined to Rs 1419 before closing at Rs 1421.50 a quintal on speculative movements. Castorseeds Maharashtra and Madras improved further by Rs 19 each to Rs 1416 and Rs 1410 a quintal respectively.

Sugar: An easy-to-dull trend was witnessed in sugar prices at the wholesale sugar market here yesterday. Both the grades ruled subdued. S-30 eased to Rs 1450/1470 a quintal as against the previous level of Rs 1460/1480.

M-30 ruled subdued at Rs 1465/1510 a quintal against Rs 1470/1505 on Thursday. Sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1425/1435 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1442/1455 a quintal for the M-30.

Non-ferrous Metals : A weak-to-steady trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday.

In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps declined further by 50 paise, while copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings eased further by 25 paise each to Rs 115 50, Rs 103 25, Rs 89 00 kg respectively. Meanwhile, aluminium utensils ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted at Rs 64 a kg on narrow movement.

Tin slabs fell by Rs 5 to Rs 378 a kg on improved arrivals coupled with limited industrial demand. Meanwhile, all other metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under : copper wirebar Rs 131.50, aluminium Rs 82.50, zinc slabs Rs 79, lead ingots Rs 43.00 and nickel cathodes Rs 296 a kg respectively.

Bullion: An easy-to-subdued trend was noticed in the local bullion market yesterday. Both metals ruled easy.

Silver .999 and .916 eased by Rs 5 each to Rs 7,755 and Rs 7,605 a kg respectively on dull overseas advices. Both standard gold and 22 carat weakened by Rs 15 each to Rs 4,185 and Rs 3,870 per 10 grammes. Gold biscuit prices also eased by Rs 200 at Rs 49,100 per piece of gold bar on subdued movements.
