Groundnut Oil Rises Rs 7, Sugar, Bullion Harden

Groundnut oil advanced further yesterday on paucity of ready stock due to limited arrivals from the producing centres against better demand, whereas other industrial oils ruled better-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Imported palmolein ruled firm.

In the futures section, castorseeds June contract remained untraded, while September contract opened higher and firmed up further towards closing.

Groundnut oil improved further by Rs seven at Rs 445 on per 10 kg. In other oils, kardi oil and ricebran oil improved by Rs five each to Rs 570 and Rs 225 per 10 kg, respectively. Soya oil refined and sunflower oil expeller declined by Rs nine and Rs eight to Rs 386 and Rs 400 per 10 kg, respectively. Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities advanced by Rs four each to Rs 301 and Rs 313 per 10 kg, respectively. Imported palmolein looked up further by Rs 2 at Rs 379 per 10 kg.

In the futures market, castorseeds September contract opened Rs 1.50 higher at Rs 1,392.50 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1,395.50. It declined to Rs 1,389.50 before closing at Rs 1,395.50 a quintal.

In oilseeds, castorseeds Maharashtra and Madras looked up further by Rs 19 each to Rs 1,349 and Rs 1,343 a quintal, respectively. Kardi seeds firmed up by Rs 25 at Rs 1,850 a quintal.

Sugar: An upward-to-firm trend witnessed in sugar prices at the local sugar market yesterday.

Sugar S-30 firmed up to Rs 1,465/1,490 a quintal, while sugar M-30 looked up to Rs 1,500/1,520.

Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,445/1,460 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,465/1,485 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market.

In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps and copper utensils declined by 50 paise each to Rs 118 and Rs 101 a kg, while brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings eased by 25 paise each to Rs 89.50 and Rs 93.25 a kg. Meanwhile, aluminium utensils were nominally quoted at Rs 65 a kg.

In the virgin section, copper wirebar eased by 50 paise at Rs 133 a kg. Zinc slabs firmed up by 50 paise at Rs 81 a kg. Meanwhile, all other metals were nominally quoted as under: aluminium ingots Rs 84, lead ingots Rs 43.50, tin slabs Rs 370 and nickel cathodes Rs 304 a kg.

Bullion: An upward trend was noticed in the local bullion market yesterday.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 advanced by Rs 105 and Rs 95 to Rs 7,620 and Rs 7,505 a kg.

In yellow metals, both standard gold and 22-carat gold firmed up by Rs 20 each to Rs 4,200 and Rs 3,885 per 10 grammes, respectively. Gold biscuit prices also improved further by Rs 300 at Rs 49,300 per piece of gold bar.
