Groundnut Oil Sheds Re 1 Bullion Firm, Sugar Dull

Groundnut oil eased by Re 1 at Rs 350 per 10 kg on subdued demand coupled with easy arrivals. The trading volume was modest.

Cottonseed oil washed and refined firmed up further by Rs 3 and Rs 4 to Rs 230 and Rs 237 per 10 kg, respectively, on better industrial demand against modest arrivals. Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities firmed up by Rs 2 each to Rs 399 and Rs 411 per 10 kg, respectively, on better industrial offtake. Imported RBD palmolein and soybean oil refined eased by Rs 3 and Rs 2 to Rs 207 and Rs 228 per 10 kg, respectively, on modest industrial demand and subdued movements.

Castorseeds June-2000 contract opened Rs 5 lower at Rs 1,845 a quintal and moved to Rs 1,860. It declined to Rs 1,845 before closing at Rs 1,860 a quintal. September contract opened Rs 10 lower at Rs 1,921 a quintal and ruled steady.

Castor oil international contract April-2000 opened at Rs 411 per 10 kg and ruled quiet. Castorseeds looked up by Rs 10 to Rs 1,845 a quintal All the other oilseeds ruled steady.

Sugar : An easy to dull trend continued at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. Small-grade sugar (S-30) softened further to Rs 1,450/1,465 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,430/1,471 on improved arrivals coulpled with dull demand. Medium-grade (M-30) declined further to Rs 1,468-1,545 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,465/1,565 on dull offtake. Consumer demand was dull against normal supply position. Sugar prices for check-post were quoted higher at Rs 1,410/1,435 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,432/1,450 for the medium grade.

Non-ferrous metals : Copper firmed up while all the other metals showed a steady trend in the non-ferrous metals. The demand was subdued against normal supply position.

In virgins, copper wirebar firmed by Re 1 at Rs 123.75 a kg while zinc slabs eased by 50 paise at Rs 89.00 a kg on dull industrial offtake. All the other metals were nominally quoted as under : aluminium ingots Rs 90.00, lead ingots Rs 35, tin slabs Rs 375 and nickel cathodes Rs 590 a kg, respectively.

Scraps were quoted as under : copper heavy scraps Rs 117.00, copper utensils Rs 100.00, brass utensils Rs 90.00, brass sheetcuttings Rs 97.00 and aluminium utensils Rs 68.50 a kg, respectively.

Bullion : A firm trend witnessed in precious metals prices at the local bullion market. Silver .999 and .916 improved by Rs 70 and Rs 80 to Rs 7,920 and Rs 7,800 a kg, respectively, on strong overseas advices and modest demand. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold prices improved by Rs 40 and Rs 35 to Rs 4,400 and Rs 4,070 per 10 gm, respectively Gold biscuits gained Rs 600 at Rs 51,600 per piece on firm offtake.
