Groundnut oil witnessed an easy-to-downward trend, while other industrial oils ruled easy-to-subdued at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. In futures section, castorseeds June contract remained untraded, whereas September contract opened lower and slipped further towards the fag end.
Groundnut oil went down by Rs 2 at Rs 360 per 10 kg on reduced demand coupled with better arrivals from oil producing centres. Arrivals were put at around 90 tonnes a day. Sesame oil and karanji oil declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 295 and Rs 150 per 10 kg respectively on reduced industrial demand and better availability. Sunflower oil firmed up by Rs 5 to Rs 290 per 10 kg on improved industrial offtake. Cottonseed oil washed quality weakened by Rs 2 to Rs 273 per 10 kg on dull industrial demand, while imported palmolein eased by Rs 2 at Rs 266 per 10 kg. In the futures section, castorseeds September contract opened Rs 13.50 lower at Rs 1,146.50 and firmed up to Rs 1,150 a quintal during the course of trading. It closed at Rs 1,142.50 a quintal on speculative selling.
Castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra qualities slipped by Rs 5 each to Rs 1,099 and Rs 1,088 per quintal respectively.

Sugar: A mixed trend was noticed at the wholesale sugar market at Turbhe yesterday, with small grade sugar easing while medium grade prices ruling subdued. Sugar S-30 grade eased to Rs 1,410/1,448 as against the previous level of Rs 1,425/1,458 a quintal on profit-taking at improved level, while sugar M-30 ruled subdued to Rs 1,465/1,505 as against the previous level of Rs 1,468/1,500 a quintal on subdued offtake. Sugar for check-post deliveries were quoted easy at Rs 1,400/1,420 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,425/1,470 for the M-30grade.
Non-ferrous metals: Tin slabs and nickel cathodes slid on reduced demand and weak overseas advices. Other metals ruled overall steady. In virgin section, tin slabs and nickel cathodes declined by Rs 3 and Rs 2 to Rs 311 and Rs 363 a kg respectively.
Other metals were nominally quoted as under: copper wirebars Rs 137.50, aluminium ingots Rs 77, zinc slabs Rs 81 and lead ingots Rs 41 a kg respectively. The scraps section was quiet.All the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as: copper heavy scraps Rs 126.50, copper utensils Rs 114.50, brass utensils Rs 96.75, brass sheetcuttings Rs 101.75 and aluminium utensils Rs 60 a kg.
Bullion: The local bullion witnessed an easy-to-steady trend in the local bullion market. Silver ruled easy, while gold was steady on subdued overseas advices.
In white metals, silver.999 and .916 eased by Rs 10 each to Rs 6,840 and Rs 6,740 per kg respectively on dull offtake and weak overseas advices. In yellow metals, both standard gold and 22 carat gold ruled static and were quoted at Rs 4,680 and Rs 4,330 per 10 grams respectively on subdued demand.Gold biscuit prices ruled at the previous level of Rs 54,800 per piece of 10 tolas.
