Groundnut Oil, Sugar Rule Steady; Gold Softens

Groundnut oil held steady at Rs 355 per 10 kg on subdued demand and modest arrivals. The trading volume was modest and arrivals were nominal from overseas centres yesterday.

Castor oil, both commercial and FSG qualities, declined by Rs 2 each to Rs 380 and Rs 392 per 10 kg respectively on weak industrial offtake against brisk supplies. Linseed oil and karanji oil eased by Rs 5 and Rs 2 to Rs 260 and Rs 175 a kg respectively.

Imported RBD palmolein and imported soya oil refined softened by Re 1 each to Rs 211 and Rs 222 per 10 kg. respectively on modest industrial enquires.

Castorseeds June-2000 contract remained untraded yesterday. September contract opened Rs 6 up at Rs 1800 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1804. It declined and closed to Rs 1783 a quintal.

Castor oil international contract April-2000 opened Rs 2 lower at Rs 394 per 10 kg and ruled steady.

Castorseeds and kardi seeds declined by Rs 10 and Rs 25 to Rs 1750 and Rs 1050 per quintal respectively on dull demand and easy supplies. Nigerseeds firmed up by Rs 25 at Rs 2475 a quintal on firm offtake. All other oilseeds including castorseeds ruled steady

Sugar: A steady trend witnessed at Turbhe, wholesale sugar market in Navi Mumbai. Both the grades of sugar ruled quiet on subdued demand. Small-grade sugar (S-30) held steady and were nominally quoted to Rs 1400/1425 a quintal. Medium-grade (M-30) ruled steady too at 1440-1490 a quintal. Sugar prices for check-post were quoted higher at Rs 1385/1395 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1425/1445 for the medium grade.

Non-ferrous metals: Non-ferrous metals remained quiet at the local market yesterday. Metals in both the sections ruled totally steady. The demand was easy to steady against normal supply.

In scraps, all the metals ruled steady and were nominally quoted as under: Copper heavy scraps Rs 118.50, copper utensils Rs 101.00, brass utensils Rs 91.00, brass sheet cuttings Rs 97.00 and aluminium utensils Rs 69.00 a kg.

In virgins, all the other metals ruled steady and were nominally quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 127.00, aluminium ingots Rs 90.50, zinc slabs Rs 89.25, lead ingots Rs 34.50, tin slabs Rs 378 and nickel cathodes Rs 615 a kg respectively.

Bullion: Mixed trend continued in precious metals prices at the local bullion market. Silver ruled divergent while gold ruled weak.

Silver .999 eased by Rs 10 at Rs 7830 a kg ,while silver .916 ruled steady at Rs 7710 a kg. The demand was modest coupled with normal arrivals of imported goods.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold prices weakened by Rs 35 and Rs 30 to Rs 4,345 and Rs 4,020 per 10 gm respectively. Gold biscuits prices declined too and eased by Rs 450 to Rs 50,800 per piece on weak offtake and normal inflows.
