Groundnut Oil Weak, Sugar Divergent, Bullion Mixed

The weak trend in groundnut oil continued. Other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady. Imported palmolein ruled weak.

In the futures section, castorseeds June contract remained untraded while the September contract opened up but eased towards close.

Groundnut oil declined further by Rs 2 at Rs 468 per 10 kg. In other oils, copra oil white and rapeseed oil refined improved by Rs 5 and Rs 3 to Rs 485 and Rs 425 per 10 kg respectively. Linseed oil and sesame oil declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 445 and Rs 430 per 10 kg. Karanji oil improved by Rs 2 at Rs 192 per 10 kg, while soya oil refined eased by Re 1 at Rs 404 per 10 kg.

Imported palmolein eased further by Rs 2 at Rs 376 per 10 kg. Most other oils ruled overall steady.

In the futures market, castorseeds September contract opened Re 1 higher at Rs 1436 a quintal It declined to Rs 1427.50 before closing at Rs 1429 a quintal.

In oilseeds, castorseeds Maharashtra and Madras declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 1,454 and Rs 1,448 a quintal respectively. All oilseeds ruled overall steady on narrow movements.

Sugar: A divergent trend was witnessed in sugar. Both grades moved in opposite direction. Sugar S-30 eased to Rs 1,450/1,463 a quintal against the previous Rs 1,450/1,468.

Sugar M-30 firmed up to Rs 1,470/1,505 a quintal against the previous Rs 1,465/1,500 .

Sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,432/1,442 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,450/1,480 a quintal for M-30.

Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady trend was noticed on the local non-ferrous metals market. Demand remained subdued for most metals.

In the virgin section, tin slabs declined further by Rs 2 at Rs 372 a kg. All other metals ruled overall steady. Copper wirebar was quoted at Rs 132 a kg, aluminium Rs 82.50, zinc slabs Rs 79, lead ingots Rs 43 and nickel cathodes at Rs 296 a kg respectively.

In scraps, copper utensils and brass sheetcuttings firmed up by 25 paise each to Rs 103.50 and Rs 93 a kg respectively on better industrial offtake and limited arrivals. All other metals ruled overall steady

Copper heavy scraps was quoted at Rs 115.50 a kg, brass utensils Rs 89 and aluminium utensils at Rs 64 a kg respectively.

Bullion: A mixed trend was noticed on the local bullion market. Silver gained marginally while gold prices ruled overall steady.

In white metals, silver .999 and .916 improved further by Rs 5 and Rs 25 to Rs 7,905 and Rs 7,800 a kg respectively.

In yellow metals, both standard gold and .22 carat ruled overall steady and were quoted at Rs 4,275 and Rs 3,955 per 10 grammes respectively. Gold biscuit prices ruled overall steady at Rs 50,200 per piece.
