Hyderabad-based GVK Power & Infrastructure Limited (GVKPIL) reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 64.3 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2012, as against Rs 58.92-crore net profit in the corresponding quarter last year.

The loss was mainly due to the restricted supply of gas for the power projects, as a result plants did not operate at full capacity. Besides, the company incurred loss on account of foreign exchange fluctuations and interest cost, GVKPIL said in a press release on Wednesday.

Total income grew 33.7 per cent to Rs 818.55 crore, as against Rs 612.31 crore. EBIDTA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) grew 42.3 per cent to Rs 199.95 crore compared with Rs 140.47 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

According to the release, the company's energy division recorded decline in revenues to Rs 433.21 crore from Rs 559.32 crore in the same quarter last year. Others including transportation, Mumbai International Airport Private Limited and Bangalore International Airport Limited recorded marginal growth.

The expansion of its terminal at the Bangalore airport is under construction and would cater to 20 million passengers by 2013.
