In a bid to inject diversity in its courses, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has launched new electives in areas like real estate management, sports marketing, media investment management and coaching skills.
"The new elective courses will be offered to the 2012-13 batch. The effort is to offer electives in diverse areas," said Samir Barua, director of IIM-A while announcing the launch of new courses. In all seven electives have been launched including coaching and counselling skills for team and leadership effectiveness (CASTLE), real estate management (REM), sports marketing (SpMr), strategy, structure, people and outcome (SSPO), media investment management (MIM), marketing management in the world of high technology and innovation (MMWHTI) and monetary theory and policy (MTP).
While REM will look to offer domain knowledge of the real estate industry and ways to help companies leverage opportunities, SpMr is aimed at helping IIM-A students tap areas that will benefit fans, players, clubs, leagues, associations/boards and sponsors.
Further, Barua said that IIM-A has joined hands with top B-schools in Brazil, China and Russia to launch a global management development program.
Titled 'The BRICs on BRICs program', the global MDP will see joint partnership of Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC) from Brazil, the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO from Russia, IIMA from India and the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) from China. The program will look to address both the macro perspectives of each of the BRIC economies as well as micro-level details of operational excellence in those countries. The total class size will be around 40.
